This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). By using Roamance, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

We collect information you provide directly:

  • Account Information: Name, email address, age, date of birth
  • Profile Information: Photos, bio, travel preferences, current location, destinations visited, bucket list, travel style, favorite activities, countries visited
  • Identity Verification: Government-issued ID (processed securely by third-party verification services and never stored on our servers)
  • Communications: Messages with other users, customer support interactions
  • Payment Information: Processed securely by Stripe (we do not store credit card numbers)
  • Social Media: If you choose to link Instagram or other social accounts

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Data: How you interact with the Service, profiles viewed, swipes, matches, messages sent
  • Device Information: Device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, mobile network information
  • Location Data: With your permission, we collect precise or approximate location to show you nearby matches
  • Log Data: IP address, browser type, pages visited, time and date of visits

1.3 Information from Third Parties

  • Apple Sign-In: If you use Sign in with Apple, we receive your name and email (or private relay email if you choose to hide your email)
  • Identity Verification Services: Verified name, date of birth, and verification status from Stripe Identity

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Match you with other travelers based on preferences and location
  • Verify your identity for safety and fraud prevention
  • Enable communication between matched users
  • Process premium subscriptions and payments
  • Send notifications about matches, messages, and account activity

3. Identity Verification & Apple Sign-In

3.1 ID Verification

We use Stripe Identity, a third-party identity verification service, to verify your government-issued ID. Your ID document is processed by Stripe and never stored on our servers. We only receive and store:

  • Your verified first and last name
  • Your verified date of birth
  • Verification status (verified or not verified)

This verified information is stored permanently to prevent identity fraud and cannot be changed. You may choose to display only your first name publicly on your profile.

3.2 Sign in with Apple

If you use Sign in with Apple, we respect your privacy choices. If you choose to hide your email, we receive a private relay email from Apple. We do not receive any additional information from Apple beyond what you explicitly authorize.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:

4.1 With Other Users

Your public profile (photos, bio, travel information) is visible to other users. Matched users can message each other.

4.2 With Service Providers

  • Stripe: Payment processing and identity verification
  • Cloud Storage: Uploadcare for photo storage
  • Analytics: To understand app usage and improve our Service
  • Email Services: To send transactional emails and notifications

4.3 For Legal Reasons

We may disclose your information if required to:

  • Comply with legal obligations, court orders, or subpoenas
  • Protect the rights, property, or safety of Roamance, our users, or others
  • Investigate fraud, security, or technical issues
  • Enforce our Terms of Service

4.4 Business Transfers

5. Your Rights & Choices

5.1 Access & Update

You can access and update your profile information anytime in the app settings.

5.2 Delete Your Account

You can delete your account at any time from the app settings. Upon deletion, your profile will be removed from our systems within 30 days, except for information we are required to retain for legal compliance.

5.3 Opt-Out of Communications

You can opt out of promotional emails by clicking "unsubscribe" or adjusting notification settings in the app. You cannot opt out of service-related communications (e.g., account verification, security alerts).

5.4 Location Data

You can disable location access in your device settings. Note that this may limit certain features like nearby matches.

5.5 GDPR Rights (European Users)

If you are in the European Economic Area, you have the right to:

  • Access your personal data
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict processing
  • Data portability
  • Withdraw consent at any time

5.6 CCPA Rights (California Users)

6. Data Retention

Inactive Account Policy: Accounts inactive for 30 days may be hidden from discovery. Accounts inactive for 90 days may be permanently deleted.

After account deletion, we delete your profile data within 30 days, except for information required for legal compliance (e.g., transaction records, fraud prevention).

7. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Roamance is not intended for users under 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 18, we will delete it immediately. We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:
